More Voices

For a while now, this column, and the magazine as a whole, has carried one or two editor bylines. That’s changing.

Starting with this issue, the magazine isn’t just being put together by one editor, it’s assembled by the team behind The Shot Peener. The name at the top of the page may be generic, but the work behind it has always been more than one person’s, and it’s time the publication reflected that.

Why say so out loud? Because a magazine like this one only works if it’s actually listening to the industry it covers, and one voice, however well-intentioned, hears less than several. Opening the magazine to more of the team means more perspectives on what’s worth saying first: a different read on a submission, a different question asked of an author, a different sense of what the shop floor needs to hear about this month. The goal isn’t a different magazine. It’s a fuller one.

Readers need not worry. The standard for what runs here, clear, useful, worth a reader’s time, doesn’t change because the byline does. What changes is that more people get to hold that standard, and more of what makes this industry worth covering gets a chance to make it onto the page.

More voices, same commitment. Let’s get into this issue.
